Information about fees and Royal Life Saving NSW competitions

Competitive membership fees cover affiliation fees to Royal Life Saving NSW, capitation to Royal Life Saving NSW, one award and entrance to all NSW carnivals including the State Championships.

Non-competitive membership covers affiliation and capitation to Royal Lifes Saving NSW and one award.

Any member 16 and over can vote at meetings and elect committee members. Members 12 and over can vote for club captains.

Awards that are offered are: Swim and Survive, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Resuscitation.

Each award has to renewed every year for a member to claim points at carnivals e.g. if an award expires on 18 December, it must be updated prior to any carnival in the new year. Members not holding awards may compete in carnivals without an award but can only claim the points gained at carnivals held prior to 1 January if they have gained the appropriate award for their age group prior to 1 January.

To compete in State Championships each member must have attended two carnivals (on the basis 4 club carnivals are held). All are encouraged to attend as many as possible.

Clubs can only claim points once in any race. For example, if ELSC came 1st, 2nd and 3rd, points are only allocated for 1st. Therefore points can be gained if you come 5th etc.

Nationals are normally held in Canberra in January. All U/14 and up are encouraged to attend. To compete in the under 14’s you must be 13 or younger on 1 January.

Age groups for Lifesaving are based on the age you are on January 1: Under 9, 9/10, 11,12,13, U16, U/19, Open, 30-44, and Over 45.
